After weeks of planning and checking off ‘to-do-lists’, we were finally all ready to help put together one of the most important and fun elements of the upcoming Lyta Ekasi (Light Up Your Township) Christmas Party… the kid’s Christmas presents!
Although it is great fun to go shopping for the kids, it is often hard to know what to put inside the “shoebox” sometimes. After much prayer and thought as well as a few discussions with individuals who grew up in the townships, we had a list all ready! Ultimately we knew that God would help us ensure the kids got what they needed and enjoyed. We were blessed to receive funding to make up 15 out of the 50 boxes needed! Yay!
We made up eight boxes for young girls ages nine to thirteen and seven boxes for boys aged nine to twelve. The girls received: A pretty t-shirt, a compact mirror, nail polish, hair clips, sanitary pads, toothbrushes and toothpaste, vaseline, a packet of sweets, a facecloth, colored pencils, and plain pencils… all packaged in a pretty gift box!
The boys received: A cool baseball cap (the African sun gets hot!), a deck of cards, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, a packet of sweets, a facecloth, colored pencils, and plain pencils… all packaged in a cool gift box!
We are incredibly grateful to all of our amazing supporters who partnered with us in order to make these Christmas boxes possible for these precious children. Many of the kids live in an informal settlement (squatter camp) and have been neglected or orphaned. It is such a privilege to be able to bring some joy into their lives this Christmas.. thank you for your support!
