Nelson Mandela, the former South African president, and a well-known freedom fighter, spent 67 years of his life in public service. Each year on his birthday, the 18th of July, the country comes together to celebrate “Nelson Mandela Day”. People from all walks of life are encouraged to use 67 minutes of their time to support a chosen charity or serve in their local community. The 67 minutes symbolically represent the number of years the former President fought for human rights and the abolition of apartheid.
A team of Bokamoso children wanted to give back to their community by doing a “clean-up” day. They spent the morning picking up trash from the streets and helping the elderly clean their yards. It is so vital to instill the values of serving others and not only being the recipient of “charity” to all of our vulnerable children.
After their hard work, they were rewarded with a lovely lunch of chicken and cake to celebrate!
