Bordering one of the wealthiest suburbs in Johannesburg lies one of the poorest communities. Over 35 of the Bokamso children live within this large, notorious township. Upon going to visit their homes, our guide (needed for our guidance & safety), explained how in the block where some of the children reside there are over 100 adults and 40 children who all share 2 bathrooms. (At times we grumble that in our home, we only have one toilet for all four of us when everyone is in need at the same time. 140 people and 2 toilets. That evening, we all gave thanks for our one amazing toilet!)
All 35 children attend the same school which is run by a principal with a huge heart for the kids. As the school provides breakfast and lunch for the children, they often have their main food intake whilst at school. Therefore, during lockdowns and school holidays, many of them experience a lot of hunger. It was really wonderful to be able to provide all the kids with food parcels and a fun lunch of hot dogs, thanks to our wonderful ministry partners. Having, Bob, an amazing ministry parter and friend visiting from Kansas City to see all the ministry first hand made it all the better still!
As we were at the school around Easter we couldn’t leave without doing some fun Easter egg games and a hunt, of course! We are so grateful for God’s provision for all these little ones, we pray that they will never go hungry, and always know His love for them!
