April 2020
Lucky, Moers, Hendrick, Stanley, Terrance… these are just a few of the names of men and women that are either homeless or sleeping in shacks in our local area. We are currently in Fall and the nights are already very cold! God placed on our hearts to provide blankets and mealie meal (a staple food source) to these precious individuals, some of whom we have gotten to know well over the past year and others God leads us to each day.
We have been able to purchase 26 blankets already (double blankets, made to withstand the elements), thanks to generous donations! Watching the appreciation and thankfulness each person displays is both heart-warming and heart-wrenching. We have much to be grateful for each day. As we give these gifts out, we have been able to show God’s love to each person and it has been wonderful to see how many would like Bibles and prayer.
South Africa remains on a strict “lockdown”, therefore much of our ministry during April was conducted via phone calls, video calls, and all things electronic! This gave us extra time to minister more deeply with those who needed counseling, mental, emotional, and spiritual support during these challenging times.
We also continued with our Sunday church group via Skype, which minus a few glitches, has worked out well overall. Lockdown has also afforded Ryan the time to work on his books and short stories – a way for us to share God’s love and His message of hope through the medium of storytelling!
