The Lord has much to say in His Word regarding us being generous and giving to those in need, especially to the poor, widows, and fatherless. Nonetheless, at times we can become desensitized to the needs of those around us due to the overwhelming prevalence of those in need.
Recently when sharing about some of our Bokamoso children going hungry more often than not, a wonderful supporter was a perfect example of Hebrews 13:16, showing compassion and sacrificing money that had been gifted to her for her own enjoyment and instead “did good and shared it” by gifting it to use to feed the children of Soul City informal settlement.
The children had been in dire need of food and were incredibly blessed and appreciative of the gift of food. Such an important reminder to us to put ourselves in their shoes more often and consider how we would feel going hungry more often than not, or far worse seeing our children go hungry and not be able to do anything about it.
Knowing how we bless the One, who loves and blesses us, as we feed His children is a raw reminder never to become desensitized to those around us in need of love and our support. We are extremely grateful for all those who partner with us to help see stomachs filled; we know that the Lord will truly reward you for all that you do.
Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done. (Proverbs 19:17)
The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor. (Proverbs 22:9)
