As I slipped into bed, I let out a shiver; it was a bitterly cold night; even in my solid brick house and under multiple warm blankets, the air felt chilly. It was around 34 F. I thought about the 300 + kids we work alongside and wondered how they were sleeping that night. All living in tin shacks, many of them sleeping on the floor, and many others using “camera” blankets: blankets with so many holes in them, it’s as if you are looking through a camera lens at others around you. Did they feel cold? Were they able to fall asleep easily?
The next time I saw a group of them, I asked…how many were cold at night? Unanimously, all their little hands shot up—all of them were cold. Something had to be done, and soon – for the nights were about to get colder.
With around 300 kids needing blankets we needed a miracle. I felt to ask one of our amazing supporters if we could use some recently donated funds for the blankets…but even that would only help us purchase around 12 blankets. Whilst speaking with our friend, the Lord said quietly spoke to my heart, that I would get what I ask for…but was I brave enough to ask for everything we needed? I didn’t want seem too onerous.
Our friend ask what the need was and showed amazing faith… within 24 hours, God performed a miracle. We not only received the funds we needed for blankets but also enough to purchase lovely foam mattresses too! We were dancing with joy and definitely sleeping better at night, knowing that the kids would too!
Over the past week or so, we have bought and begun distributing over 180 blankets as well as mattresses, with many more ready to be gifted to those in need.
“I remain confident of this; I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” – Psalm 27 :13-14
