In order to apply for our South African visas, we all had to go apply in person.. to Chicago! As we are currently in Kansas City, that would mean an 8-hour drive + 2 young kids = 10 hours or so drive there and back!
With our current bank balance teetering near zero, and no car, the task seemed impossible to accomplish this month. However, we really felt it was important to go as soon as possible, as the sooner we go, the sooner we know if we are approved to return to South Africa or not!
After waiting for three weeks, all of our necessary paperwork finally arrived from South Africa (with much-needed help from our family over there!). So, we made a plan and set the date to leave for Chicago, drive straight through, go to the embassy and drive straight back to Kansas… gulp! In retrospect, we were definitely having a lapse of mental and/or parental sanity!
However, the Lord is faithful in all things! A few days before our trip, we received a very generous donation to get a rental car for seven days, which allowed us to spread our trip out over a few extra days. The same kind supporter than gifted us three nights at an amazing hotel (yay, for their extra points!), which came with breakfast and other meals included! When God blessings us, He pulls out all of the stops!
The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
