“Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:31
What does it look like to boast in Jesus? Is is to talk with excessive pride about who He is and all that He has done, or His abilities? Whatever the subject matter, to me the important factor is that the ultimate focus is upon Him and not ourselves.
In God we have boasted all day long, And we will give thanks to Your name forever. Selah” Psalm 44:8
This testimony is my boast in Him for His faithfulness in our daily needs…
Upon embarking on a new ministry, as missionaries in Southern Africa, our daily finances have became dependent upon those whom God leads to partner with us and support us in this mission. Our “income” is therefore often unpredictable.
Our rent is due on the 4th of every month, and at the beginning of January we only had one-third of what was needed. We gave our needs to the Lord, knowing that He is our Provider. We knew that some money was coming in on the 5th, but that was a day too late. We then received an email stating that as the 5th was a Saturday, we’d receive all our support for that time period on the 4th instead. One answer to prayer! God was in control!
Nonetheless, we still did not have enough to cover our rent. Friday morning arrived and nothing had come through, however, that was understandable as we are 8-10 hours ahead of USA time. Then our landlady called and mentioned that she would come collect our rent in person this month, so we did not need to deposit it, and that she’d only be there on the 8th. God bought us even more time! When we did receive our supporters’ faithful donations, we noted that extra funds had been donated, unbeknownst to us… enough to cover all of our rent as well as immediate living expenses. God is always faithful to provide our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).
“My soul will make its boast in the LORD; The humble will hear it and rejoice.” Psalm 34:2
