After four weeks of being back in South Africa (December 2018), the strain of uprooting our family and moving overseas had started to take its toll.
Moments arose when I questioned whether we heard from God or “had bitten off more than we could chew.”
Then last week, we received a call from Mma Patricia, the Program Manager of St. John the Divine Orphans and Outreach, asking if we knew of a way to get 40 Bibles…as many of her staff had been praying for bibles. After a few phone calls & advice from a friend, we found a place that sold Bibles at a reasonable cost.
We were able to purchase 40 Bibles as Christmas presents for the staff!
The night before Kirsten took the Bibles, we prayed that God would bless those who received them and wrapped them in Christmas paper. In order to make room for the trip here, I had to give away half of my Bibles. Coming from an educated and wealthy society, I have never known what it would be like to not have access to a Bible.
I hoped that at least one or two would be grateful and find the same joy in reading God’s Word as Kirsten and I have experienced.
Kirsten was not able to record the initial reaction of receiving the staff receiving the Bibles but caught this short video of the staff five minutes after receiving their gifts. To say I become emotional from seeing their response would be a complete understatement.
If the only reason we came to South Africa was to provide Bibles for this beautiful group of selfless workers, then it would be more than worth it!
We pray this video inspires you to never grow tired in doing good.
