After being in eight different houses in the space of eight weeks (since leaving California), we were ready to put down roots again, at least for the foreseeable future! However, with Christmas and summer (in South Africa) approaching, housing was very limited and very costly.
We were staying in a temporary Airbnb, when through a family member, we heard about a unit becoming available for rent at the beginning of December. The problem was that is was unfurnished. We did not own a pan, never-mind the other necessary furniture pieces. The other issue is that we needed a month to month rental given our limited holiday visa.
However, the Lord is always faithful. The landlady not only agreed to a monthly rental contract, but also agreed to leave us all of the major kitchen appliances, as well as a bunk bed for the kids! Our family blessed us with other necessary household items. The unit is also located a perfect distance from the orphanage we are working with, as well as not too far from our family in the area. It is also close to quarter of what we were paying for rent in the Silicon Valley!
However, the most fun testimony came in the form of Ryan Jr.’s prayers being answered…
“Mom, my prayer for two bathrooms wasn’t answered, but that’s ok, because, it’s a miracle that Jesus has given us lots of friends!”
Within 24 hours of being in our new home, the kids had meet over five kids their age and had already had play-dates, (one neighbor has a six year old son, being home-schooled like Ryan, which is awesome)!
God knows the desires of our hearts and is faithful to answer them!
