Proverbs 27:18 “Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who guards his master will be honored.”
The more grey hairs I discover, the greater the reality hits me, that time continues its relentless march. Don’t get me wrong, I do understand that time is relative. However, for my human body, death is a certainty, and therefore time is relatively unrelenting.
When my time comes, I am curious as to the world I will leave behind.
Will it be better, or worse than when I found it? I remember the lessons taught to me as a kid: ”Don’t ever give something back dirtier than it was lent to you,” or “If you use a room, clean up after yourself, and try to make it tidier than when you found it.” Our culture, our societies… the environment, how will it look fifty or seventy years from now?
How can I leave this populated 3rd rock from the sun better off, than when I was first entrusted with it?
Have you ever picked up trash? No, I mean have you ever picked up someone else’s trash… without a mandated court order. Do yourself a favor, and go for a walk around your neighborhood and pick up a small bag of trash from along the sidewalk and road and throw it away. That’s it.
What you’ll discover is a sense of joy for doing something for others, a gift given in which you expect nothing in return. Perhaps
It only takes one person to make a difference… is that person you?
