Would you spend $3.00 to share Jesus’ love with someone?
In the last few days, I had the opportunity to tip a server. The steak was good and timely served for my dinner; the meal overall was very nice. An 18% tip for either factor would have been more than enough. But what if I gave a little more?
I have often debated about giving those extra $2-3 dollars. I pine away in mind like an astrophysicist theorizing about black holes, calculating to the penny, how much tip is required….is required…that doesn’t sound like Jesus, does it? Giving only what we should, was never Jesus’ style. Can you imagine, the widow from Luke 21 giving all she had to the local cafe for the senior’s special, then reluctantly dropping 50 cents to cover her $5 dollar meal, and being praised by the Savior of the universe.
I can just see Jesus, on the throne of David saying, “After enduring being tortured to death at the cross, my loving people, are SO generous…accept when tipping Food Servers, because giving a little more than required would just be foolishness!” Of course not! When Jesus provided food for the multitudes, the disciples had tons of food left over. When the wedding ran out of wine, Jesus simply divined even better wine. Jesus was a man of crazy generosity, otherwise, He wouldn’t have said, “if someone asks for your coat, give them your shirt as well.” (Paraphrased)
So, again I ask, would you give $3 dollars extra to share Jesus’ love with someone?
I was blessed to be able to tip a server generously this week…the results were amazing! I not only prayed for the server named Jer, whose wife was sick, but I taught him and two other servers how to pray healing in the name of Jesus. He had tears in his eyes, as he stated how I had impacted his day. I also promised to pray for the eyesight of Nkiso’s father, even though he does not believe in Jesus. I left feeling incredibly blessed myself.
Obviously, we can’t pay for salvation to be delivered into the hearts of anyone, but if a couple bucks given out of a motivation of love and a generous spirit, buys me the clout to speak life into a young man’s day…I’ll take that deal anytime!
